DIDSBURY - The Didsbury U-14 girls' softball team recently competed at the U-14D provincial championships in Medicine Hat and came away with fourth place.

"The girls played so well this weekend; every game they improved both as players and as a team," said coach Jen Dawson. "Most of our players are only in their second year so for us to place fourth overall was a huge accomplishment."

The girls opened up pool play on July 12 with a 13-6 win over the host Medicine Hat Thunder. They followed that up with another win in their second game against Calgary SBR Velocity 12-8.

On July 13, Didsbury fought hard against the Fort Saskatchewan Sliders, winning 14-8. The girls' final round-robin game was later that day with a 19-0 win over Brad Saville Roughnecks from Valleyview.

After finishing first in the round-robin pool play, Didsbury took on county rival Sundre, losing 12-11 in a hard-fought battle. In the bronze medal game, Didsbury fell 15-5 to Medicine Hat.

"It was an amazing experience and the girls should be very proud of themselves," she said. "They fought hard and played some amazing ball. We showed great sportsmanship and our parents were some of the best fans."

Dawson said the whole team contributed to the strong play and success.

"We had some amazing game highlights," she said. "Our pitching and catching was strong and our infield made some great plays. Our outfield caught some fly balls to end an inning or game and we came in strong with our batting."

Dawson said the tournament was very well organized and that the Medicine Hat team was a wonderful host.
