DOGPOUND - The 112th annual Dog Pound Stampede was another big success. More than 200 competitors came out to compete in a number of events on July 17 and 18 at the Dog Pound Stampede Grounds.

Secretary Patricia McKean said the stampede, which was put on by the Dog Pound Ag Society, went very well.

"We had a few more people than we did last year," said McKean. "The rodeo ran really smooth. Everything went really well. We gave away some nice buckles."

The stampede consisted of the local invitational ranch rodeo featuring team sorting, cattle wrestling and doctoring on July 17 . There was also the children's stick horse race held that afternoon, said McKean.

On July 18 was the Foothills Cowboys Association (FCA) rodeo, which included bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding, steer wrestling and more. There was also wild cow milking, wild pony race, trick riding and a dance.

The competitors came from all over Western Canada, the United States and there were even a few from Australia, said McKean.

First-place finishers were:

  • Luke Higgens, bareback riding
  • Ty Livingstone, steer wrestling
  • Jeremy Russell, saddle bronc
  • Bryce Kulbacki, calf roping
  • Sahli Carter, boys' steer riding
  • Nolan Ziebarth and Dave Johnson, team roping
  • Jeff Lambert, bull riding
