The Innisfail Eagles were ambushed by the Bentley Generals in a 2-0 shutout played in Lacombe on Dec. 10.

Bentley's undefeated Generals and the local Eagles played a solid game on neutral ice that saw solid goaltending on both ends of the ice and an extended one-man advantage for Innisfail at the end of the game.

“The boys played an awesome game,” said coach Brian Sutter. “The difference between Bentley and us was that they scored and we couldn't. We pulled our goalie for two and a half minutes at the end of the game to get a one-man advantage and score a goal, and the Generals could not get out of their end of the ice.”

Sutter noted there were a lot of positives he took from the game.

“Travis Ziegler gave us a chance to win with his great performance,” said Sutter. “Our defence played well and one of the goals was a four-on-four and the other was a power play tally from a questionable call by the refs on Jeff Young.”

Kyle Bailey scored the first Bentley goal at 11:32 of the second period on a pass from Kyle Sheen while Scott Kalinchuk notched the second Bentley marker from Torrie Dyck and Cam Maclise.

Goalie Dustin Butler of the Generals was named first star for his 18 stops while Travis Ziegler earned the nod as the second star for his 29 saves.

With the loss, the Eagles fall to four wins and eight losses while the Generals improve to 14 wins.

The Eagles play two games before Christmas on Dec. 19 against the Ft. Saskatchewan Chiefs and on Dec. 20 tackle the Okotoks Drillers at the Twin Arenas.
