Family Fun Day, Minor Sport Night at RKC

Saturday, Jan. 14 was Olds College Broncos Family Fun Day and Minor Sport Night at the Ralph Klein Centre gym.

Saturday, Jan. 14 was Olds College Broncos Family Fun Day and Minor Sport Night at the Ralph Klein Centre gym.

As Broncos athletes competed in Alberta Colleges Athletic Association volleyball and basketball games, several family-friendly activities were held.

In the afternoon, the men's and women's Broncos volleyball teams played the Briercrest Clippers.

In the evening, the Broncos men's and women's basketball teams tipped off against the St. Mary's University Lightning.

Meanwhile, kids were able to play with inflatables, do colouring projects, and participate in various games. The college's mascot, Billy the Bronco, was also on hand to interact with kids.

That evening was declared Minor Sport Night. Anyone who wore a minor sport jersey to the games was admitted for free.

"Family Fun Day and Minor Sport Night is our opportunity to give back to the community," an Olds College news release says. "The Broncos teams are excited to showcase their talent to the community and to show their support of minor sport athletes."

Broncos athletics executive director Bob Murray echoed that thought.

"Our community has continued to show unwavering support of all of our athletes and teams, and Olds College and the Broncos Athletics program are excited to show our thanks via our Family Fun Day and Minor Sport Night," he said.

"Minor sport is the stepping stone to competitive athletics programs such as Broncos Athletics," Murray added.

"All of our coaches and athletes saw their careers start with minor sport, and we want to show our support to our minor sport athletes by giving them the opportunity to watch our Broncos take on some outstanding teams."
