The Olds Grizzlys picked up two one-goal victories last week in Alberta Junior Hockey League play, beating the Lloydminster Bobcats 4-3 on September 22 and the Bonnyville Pontiacs by the same score in a shootout the night before. Dylan Hubbs got the game winner in the shootout.
In Saturday's game against the Bobcats, Lloydminster jumped out to a 2-1 lead after one period on goals by Matthew Marcinew and Austin McDonald. Tanner Dunkle replied for the Grizzlys.
The teams traded goals in the second, with Mitch Owsley scoring for the Grizzlys and Marcinew getting his second of the game for the Bobcats.
Brandon Clowes got the game winner for the Grizzlys at 18:16 of the third period after Dylan Hubbs tied the game 3-3 on the power play earlier in the period.
A night earlier in Bonnyville, the Grizzlys trailed 2-0 after 20 minutes on a power play and short-handed goal at the hands of the Pontiacs. In the second, an even strength goal by the Grizzlys' Taylor Bilyk was bookended by a power-play marker off the stick of Brandon Clowes and a short-handed goal by Dunkle to give the Grizzlys a 3-2 lead after two periods.
Spencer Foo sent the game into overtime at 5:48 of the third period setting the stage for Hubbs' shootout winner.
The two victories snapped a three-game losing streak, including a 5-2 defeat to the Calgary Canucks on September 19. Despite outshooting the Canucks 43-29, the power play suffered an outage, going 0 for 10, while the Canucks were able to score twice on nine chances.
Lucas Grundy and Bart Moran, who staked the Grizzlys to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes, got the lone goals for the Grizzlys.
Newly-acquired netminder Cody Nicolay saw his first action on Saturday after being picked up in a trade with the Drayton Valley Thunder earlier this month for future considerations. He joined the Grizzlys for their game on Wednesday against the Canucks.
