The Olds Grizzlys will look back to their glory years with food, shopping and of course, hockey, as they celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Centennial Cup-winning team.
Proceeds from the festivities will go toward financial aid for the team.
"All the money that is raised from this will go back to the purpose of what the Grizzlys are and that's to put a winning product on the ice and to bring that Centennial Cup back to Olds," said Dean Turnquist, a member of the Olds Grizzlys board.
On April 5, the Olds Grizzlys will be holding events to commemorate the 1993-94 team that won the Centennial Cup.
The Grizzlys won the Cup the year Olds hosted it.
The first item on the itinerary is a 3 p.m. alumni game at the Olds Sports Complex. A silent auction will be held and merchandise available for purchase. Admission to the game will likely be a donation to the food bank, Turnquist said.
At 5 p.m., there will be a cocktail meet-and-greet event at the Pomeroy Inn and Suites. It's a chance for fans to meet the players, both old and new.
Then at 7 p.m., dinner will be served at $100 per plate.
Bob Clark, former general manager of the team and now the chair of Olds College, is scheduled to speak.
Miroslav Skovira, a former player who turned pro, will be flying into town to speak as well.
Turnquist, who is also the manager of corporate communications at Olds College, said the team is still looking for another guest speaker.
To get a ticket for the dinner, contact the Grizzlys office at 403-556-1121 or send an email to business operations manager Joel Hunter at [email protected].
