Andreas Troschke is the man to beat as he prepares for the hammer throwing Nationals in Montreal July 25-28.
As of last week, he was the No. 1 ranked hammer thrower in Canada in the under 23 age group and was ranked No. 2 in the country in the men's open category.
A couple of weeks ago, Troschke represented Canada at the North American and Caribbean Athletics Conference (NACAC) U 23 Championships at Queretaro, Mexico.
On July 6 he got a bronze medal for Canada in the hammer throw.
"He grabbed third in dramatic (fashion)," his father, Ralph wrote in an email to the Albertan. "He was in fifth place going into his sixth and final throw. He threw his best on his last throw (60.61 metres) and the others did not respond."
His personal best is 63.77 metres.
Troschke is a former Olds High School student now studying at the University of Lethbridge. He could not be reached for comment at press time.
