Broncos centre Kyle Huffman has seen a lot in his time at Olds College.

Over five years, he's watched the men's basketball program leave the Alberta Colleges Athletic League, a conference of small-town schools to compete against big-city institutions in the ACAC.

As the program struggled to find its footing during those lean, early days, he was there – for all 18 losses and two default victories in 2013-14.

In the drastically different 2014-15 season, the team had to play an extra qualifying game to earn their spot at the provincial championship tournament, where they won the team's first medal – a bronze.

Now this week, Huffman and the Broncos host the ACAC championship from March 3-5 at the Ralph Klein Centre.

"We've been ready since the start of the season because we knew we were hosting and we're ready to go in there and dominate," Huffman said.

Olds College finished third in the ACAC South Division. On Thursday night, they tip off against the North's No. 2 seed, the NAIT Ooks.

It's a rematch of last year's first-round playoff matchup, when the Broncos were seeded fourth and the Ooks finished the regular season undefeated. Huffman said they learned about the unpredictability of a single-game showdown.

"We went in, kicked their butts and (that) just shows anything can happen in the playoffs," he said.

Huffman, from Calgary, is graduating from the school's land agent program.
