The Sundre tier 3 midget Huskies are aiming to finish their season on a high note.

Finishing regular league play in second place in the North Central Minor Hockey Association got the team a bye into league playoffs, and they beat Hanna 7-2 on Friday, Feb. 26 to become zone 6 champions and secure a spot in provincials, which take place March 10-14 in Provost. There are seven zones in the league, and the top teams from each zone will compete in provincials.

The Huskies were down 1-0 at the end of the first period against Hanna, who they needed to beat by two points to move on to provincials.

"Every period, they just kept getting stronger," said coach Brad Price about his team, which found its momentum later in the game. The Huskies came out strong during the second and third periods and gave it their all, completely dominating Hanna for the rest of the game, he said, adding fan support always helps.

"The place was packed."

The coach said it's been a long time since the midget Huskies have won their zone championship two years in a row.

As for the league finals, the Huskies will be going up against Rimbey, who beat Stettler for their chance at the finals.

"We're in the second round of playoffs," the coach said.

That game takes place this Thursday on home ice starting at about 6:30 p.m.

"Rimbey's a good team; we'll have to be on our mark."

The coach is hopeful that the Huskies will be able to win the best-of-three contest in two straight games to move on to league finals, which will take place after provincials.

"Beating Rimbey will put us in the league finals championship," he said.

"The boys never give up ó when they want something, they go for it."
