INNISFAIL - The Innisfail Eagles split their weekend games, earning a victory on the road Saturday and losing a close battle at home on Sunday.

The Birds beat the Stony Plain Eagles 6-2  on Nov. 10,  and were on the losing end of a 6-5 decision against the Lacombe Generals the following day.

"We played really, really well last night (in Stony Plain) and we earned the win. We came back home tonight and for whatever reason, we weren't quite as sharp as what we should have been,” said Brian Sutter, head coach.

The Eagles got on the boards early with a goal from Shawn Bates, but Lacombe did not back down, jumping out to a 4-1 lead by late in the second period.

Innisfail answered back, with newcomer Dallas Desjarlais netting two goals in a minute and a half to bring the game to within one in the final frame.

The Eagles also had goals from Joe Vandermeer and a power-play marker from Colton Hayes.

Eagles netminder Danyon Lorencz, son of the late former team GM Dez Lorencz, made his home debut on Sunday, after earning his first victory as an Eagle on Saturday.

"It's good to be home, it's good to be playing and it's nice to get the first start at home out of the way," said Lorencz.

Desjarlais is one of three new players to come over from the now defunct Fort Saskatchewan Chiefs. He has had three goals in his first two games with the Birds.

"I've really adjusted to the team and the organization," said Desjarlais. "I just want to keep scoring and help the guys as much as I can here."

The Eagles' next home game is this Friday (Nov. 16). Puck drop is 8:30 p.m.
