Innisfail Skating Club's season underway

The Innisfail Skating Club's season is underway with a talent show, the annual ice show and more on the horizon.

Lisa Allan, secretary, StarSkate coordinator and costume coordinator for the club, said the next upcoming event is registration for PreCanSkate, which is aimed at teaching children three to five basic skating skills.

“That would be for our second session,” Allan said. The second session runs from January to March.

The club is holding a registration night for the PreCanSkate session at the arena Dec. 3 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and Dec. 5 from 5-6 p.m. Registration forms can also be printed out from the club's website, www.innisfailskatingclub.weebly.com, and dropped off at Jackson's Pharmasave.

Also coming up in December is a talent night Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. for families and others to check out skaters' skills. Allan said the event is more casual than the annual ice show, which is scheduled for March 16 with a circus theme.

“We put on a good show,” she said of the March event.

“It's our 49th season,” she said. There's 95 skaters registered in the various programs, which include general skating skills, improving skating skills for sports like hockey and ringette and figure skating programs.

Coming up soon is a test day for some of the older skaters on Dec. 13.

“That's kind of a big thing,” Allan said, noting other skate clubs are invited and the club arranges for an evaluator to attend.
