INNISFAIL – Their final beautiful game victory concluded a successful season for the Innisfail Titans.
The local indoor soccer squad won their last game of the season 8 to 5 against the Camrose-2 team in Red Deer at the Collicutt Centre on March 10.
“I’m absolutely impressed with how they worked this year and how well they succeeded,” said Natasha Kuchera, president of the club and assistant coach. “They worked so well together this year. They never let anything get in the way.
“They were determined,” she added. “It was an amazing season.”
The season begins in mid-October and finishes in early March.
The Titans play in the Central Alberta Youth Soccer League (CAYSL) under the Central Alberta Soccer Association (CASA).
This year there were seven teams in the league.
For the first time in the team’s four-year history Innisfail finished in first place with 11 wins and 1 loss for a total of 33 points.
“This is the first time the U-12 team has come out on top,” said Kuchera “This is the third year we’ve had a U-12 team and the first time in three years that we’ve gone from dead last (in the league) to a first-place finish.”
This year’s U-12 co-ed team had a total of 12 players, she added, noting they previously had a U-10 team as well.
During the season, the team practises twice a week in Innisfail and competes in games in Red Deer and Camrose.
With a great season behind them, Kuchera said they hope to continue next year and grow the team’s success.
“Next season we’re going to try and work harder at building a board to help grow the club,” said Kuchera. “Next year we’re going to have a U-14 team and we’d like to see U-12 and U-10 teams as well.
“We’re going to work hard at building the club, maintain what we have and add more teams so we can put Innisfail on the (indoor soccer) map,” Kuchera concluded.
