The tournament will feature eight teams, including the various league champions.
With this year marking the 65th season of Eagles hockey in Innisfail, the honour is especially sweet, says Darin Doel, chairman of the provincial host committee.
"It’s the icing on the cake," he said. "We’re not just celebrating the past but the present and future as well."
A core contingent of the Eagles hockey team played on the Carstairs Redhawks last season, a team that almost took it all, only to have victory slip through its grasp.
"I played last year and we made it to the final," said defenceman Jason Nopper. "During provincials you have to be at your best. You can’t be lackadaisical. You’ve gotta bring it."
The loss stung, but the players are ready to avenge the defeat with the Eagles, says centreman Dan Shermerhorn.
"There was a sour taste in our mouth last year from losing in the provincials," he said. "It’s going to be an interesting April."
Organizers are in the process of looking for volunteers to serve with the host committee.
