DIDSBURY - The Didsbury Jets U-13 boys' baseball team is preparing for Tier 2 provincials, which is coming up this August long weekend in St. Paul.
The Jets are currently practising a couple of times a week in preparation for the provincial tournament. Head coach Mike Lund said he expects the team to do quite well.
"The season went very well," said Lund. "We started with evaluations in April and got our team picked and from then until now, it's a world of difference. They're a full-on team now, ready to play ball."
Lund said the team is pretty young with six of 10 players in their first year of peewee.
"The strength of our team is definitely hitting," he said. "Our pitching core is good as well, but definitely hitting. We were among the top three teams in our league in total runs scored. Our goal is to score a lot of runs. We're a pretty aggressive ball team."
Lund said that practices have been going well.
"We're mostly working on our pitching and batting," he said. "That's our main focus in addition to the regular things we do generally at practices. We also have pitching coach Harold Northcott (former provincial coach) coming out and working with the boys."
Lund said the boys have a good chance to do well at provincials.
"We're going with the mindset that we have the potential to win," he said. "We've beat every team we've come against except the Olds Spitfires. They're in it as well so there is quite the big rivalry there."
