CARSTAIRS - The Carstairs Community Curling Club hosted the junior curling bonspiel this past weekend. There were 17 teams from around Central Alberta playing in three divisions: novice (beginners and 12 and under), bantam (15 and under) and under 18.
Placing first in the novice category was the Steffler rink from Cremona. Edward Ibbetson's rink placed second, while the Boomarito rink from Didsbury came third and the Pawluck rink from Carstairs placed fourth.
In the bantam category, it was the Maxwell rink from the Acadia club in Calgary placing first. The Bauer rink from Torrington placed second and the Reinhart rink from Didsbury finished third.
The under 18 division played skins and the winning team was the Schiekle rink from Carstairs.
Draw organizer and retired junior head coach Henry Tersen said the bonspiel went well and each curler took home a prize.
"All the prizes were cash prizes and everyone won something," said Tersen. "All entry fees were paid back in cash prizes."
Tersen said they were very appreciative of the curling mothers that helped out on the weekend.
"If it weren't for curling mothers over the last couple of years, there wouldn't be a junior club," he said.
