Nigel Stebanuk, a forward on the men's soccer team, and Julianna Hallock, a goalkeeper for the women's soccer team, are the A&W Olds College Broncos athletes of the week for Sept. 30-Oct. 6.
Male Athlete of the Week
Stebanuk put together another solid attacking weekend for the Broncos against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers and Lethbridge College Kodiaks. The Calgary native led the constant Broncos barrage versus Medicine Hat and scored one of the two Broncos' goals to lead the way to a dominant 2-0 win.
Against Lethbridge, the sports management student was a constant threat and was unfortunate not to pick up another goal to add to his season tally of seven. Since joining the Broncos, Stebanuk has added a new dynamic to the team and has been a nightmare to every defence in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) south division.
Female Athlete of the Week
Hallock, a veterinary medical receptionist student, has had a very solid first season for the Broncos so far, backstopping the Broncos to a 5-2-1 record while putting up league leading statistics.
The first-year student -- who goes by the name Jewels -- continued her solid season against Medicine Hat College and Lethbridge College during the Oct. 5-6 weekend.
On Saturday the Sherwood Park native put up an eight-save shut out versus Medicine Hat, followed by a 13-save player-of-the game award effort versus Lethbridge College in an tough-fought 2-0 loss.
Jewels leads the league in save percentage, is second in league saves and fourth in goals against average.
