Former Olds Minor Soccer player, Madison Tyson, 16, is going to England next month with the Global Premier Soccer (GSP) FC Bayern National Team.
Tyson leaves for her eight-day trip in late July.
On the trip, Tyson will have the opportunity to enjoy training sessions and play against local London teams.
Global Premier Soccer strives to be a leading force in the growth and development of young soccer players through programs like the one Tyson is a part of.
The trip became a reality for Tyson when she began to play for Calgary West and the pieces began to fall into place.
“My new coach watched me play a couple of games and offered the opportunity to try out for next year,” Tyson said. “Some of the girls couldn’t go on the trip (this year) so he offered and told the coach of the national team about me.”
Tyson was thrilled to have the chance to go on the trip but was genuinely surprised that it happened.
“I was really excited and kind of surprised because it was so soon from when I moved to the Calgary club (earlier this year),” said Tyson.
Tyson’s excitement comes from getting the chance to seeing the culture of soccer in England and how different it is from Canada.
She has lots of experience playing in Canada, as she’s played for Olds Minor Soccer, Airdrie and now Calgary.
Tyson enjoys playing for Calgary because of its competitive nature and the commitment of the coaches.
“I just really enjoy playing and it’s an escape from everything else that goes on with school,” she said about what keeps her playing soccer for year after year.
“Next year I probably will continue to play with Calgary West and then when I get out of high school I want to play with a college or university,” Tyson said. “ I hope that I get scholarships for it, I just want to keep playing.”
