One local football player will be getting a chance to improve his skills at an elite camp being held next August in Virginia.

Bryce Wachtler, one of the Olds Bantam Bulldogs, was chosen to go to the camp after having attended a similar type camp in Lethbridge in August.

Wachtler was nominated to go to the camp, which was run by Dave Hack, a former Hamilton Tiger Cat who played nine years for the team. Wachtler was the smallest and youngest offensive lineman at the camp.

“I got MVP for offensive line and I get to go down to Virginia (next summer),” he said.

The camp in August will be for the best players as selected by the coordinators of the camps that were held last summer, with both American and Canadian players participating. NFL and CFL players and coaches will be at the camp in August, giving advice to the players on how to improve their skills.

Wachtler has also applied to attend a camp in January where Canadian and American players will be squaring off in a game situation. He will find out in December whether he will be attending the camp in January.
