Despite the outcome of his final track meet of the season, Olds' Andreas Troschke was pleased with how the 2014 Canadian Youth Legion Track and Field Championships turned out.Troschke represented Team Alberta in the hammer throw at the competition, held in Langley, B.C. from Aug. 15 to 17.He finished fourth, missing the bronze after his throw in the last round.“It was a really cool experience. I've never been to a meet that size before and overall, while stats-wise the competition (may not have gone) as well as I expected, I left happier than I came,” Troschke said. “So overall, I think it was a great success just being there and experiencing the community of an event like that.”One of the highlights of the event for the 15-year-old Olds High School student was getting to know his teammates on Team Alberta, an exceptionally tight group according to the chaperones there, he said.“They've been in charge of taking care of Team Alberta for many years in a row and they told us the way our team bonded as a group and worked together … was quite possibly the best team effort that they had ever seen from a Team Alberta and maybe from anyone as far as they can remember at Legion Nationals,” he said.Troschke is a member of the Airdrie Aces Athletics club and currently holds the provincial record for the indoor hammer throw.Last month, he won gold in the U-15 hammer throw at the Alberta Summer Games. Now that his season is finished, Troschke plans to relax.“Just take a couple weeks off training and then slowly reintroduce it. I think it will be nice to get out of it for a little bit.”[email protected]
