CARSTAIRS/CREMONA/DIDSBURY - Area students did very well at the recent Junior High Divisional Badminton Meet held in Olds.
The April 16 meet featured boys and girls from grades 7-9 from schools across Chinook's Edge School Division.
Organizer Jeff Clattenburg said the event went very well and featured some great competition.
"There were close to 150 athletes represented from 10 schools across the south part of our division competing across 17 courts at Deer Meadow School and the Ralph Klein Centre in Olds," said Clattenburg. "The top two finishers in each discipline will be moving on to compete in South Central Zone Championships on May 1 in Strathmore."
Finishing in the top four from Cremona School were Riley Harms, second in Grade 7 boys singles; Braxton Bingham and Ronan Tierney, fourth in Grade 7 boys doubles; Rilyn Tetz and Nicolas Tronsgard, third in Grade 7 mixed doubles; and Brayden Steffler, fourth place, Grade 8 boys singles.
Top four finishers from Westglen School in Didsbury were Mackenzie Dodman and Tyshia Bessey, first, Grade 7 girls doubles; Wyatt Aarsby and Carter Campbell, first in Grade 8 boys doubles; Jade Vallee, third in Grade 7 girls singles; Donovan Rauhala and Henry Bommarito, third in Grade 7 boys doubles; Ava Krynski and Cole Howard, fourth in Grade 7 mixed doubles; Breanna Foshaug, third in Grade 8 girls singles; and Sierra Reese and Doran Shultz, third in mixed doubles.
Top four finishers from Hugh Sutherland School in Carstairs were Oliver Little, fourth place in Grade 7 boys singles; and Cohen Richardson and Zach Moulasion, third in Grade 8 boys doubles.
Yahel Torres of Didsbury High School finished first in Grade 9 girls singles, while Jack Holdstock and Ryley Lodermeier, also of Didsbury High, finished second in Grade 9 boys doubles.
