A longtime curler was honoured during the Olds Farmers and Farmerettes bonspiel banquet.
The Olds Farmers bonspiel has run for 39 years and the Farmerettes spiel has operated for 36 years.
Since its inception, Sam Jackson had curled in the Olds Farmers bonspiel every year except this one. He also served on its organizing committee for many years.
He was introduced by Larry Flesatti and Dennis Roemmele. According to MC Cory Noel, they are the only other two participants who have participated in every Farmers bonspiel.
"The one year that he won an event, he was so happy and we took the draw sheet, got it framed, and presented it to him. I'm guessing it's probably in his living room on the wall," Flesatti said, sparking laughter.
"I'm still happy to be a part of the curling. I thank you to the Olds Curling (Club) and the farmers and the farmerettes who put on this show," Jackson said.
"I'm glad to have been able to come every year but this year. And I just want to pass it on that this continue on for another 39 years," he added, prompting long, loud applause.
Also during the evening, Gene Leonard received a plaque for eight years of service on the organizing committee.
