From Jan. 20-26, Olds College Broncos athletics teams are partnering with RBC to break the stigma around mental illness on post-secondary campuses.
During that period, Broncos teams are urging fans to bring noisemakers to "make some noise for mental health."
Opportunities to do so come Friday, Jan. 20 when the Broncos men's and women's basketball teams take on the Ambrose Lions at the Ralph Klein Centre gym. The women tip off at 6 p.m. and the men play at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, Jan. 21, the Bronco's men's and women's volleyball teams take on the Ambrose Lions, the women at 6 p.m. and the men at 8 p.m.
On Thursday, Jan. 26, the Broncos women's hockey team faces off against the SAIT Trojans at 7 p.m. at the Sportsplex.
"The premise of the campaign is to raise awareness of mental health issues, specifically those faced by post-secondary students. Traditionally, these issues have been largely ignored," Olds College communications coordinator Randy Butler says.
"The hope of the campaign is to have all of our spectators bring noisemakers, and make as much noise as possible in recognition of mental health awareness, a stark contrast to the silence that these issues have historically been met with."
All proceeds from admissions to these games will go towards supporting the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program, supporting local minor sport.
