OLDS — Ryan Werre of Medicine Hat is the 2021 Hildebrand Motors Men’s Open Golf champion.
He fired a two-day total of 138 (68-70) to win by three strokes over Senan Foley, listed as being from Calgary.
The tournament was held July 3-4.
On the night of July 2, the area was hit by a lengthy thunderstorm.
Wade Bearchell, the club’s head pro, says all that rain didn’t make the turf too wet. In fact, it improved conditions.
“We needed the rain so the course soaked it up well,” he wrote in an email.
It would have been great to see a local golfer win the tournament, but that just didn’t happen.
Allan O’Brien of Olds had the low net, beating fellow Olds resident Mark Schultz by two strokes.
“We have lots of great players here at the club but we did have an exceptional field this year which made it a bit more difficult,” Bearchell wrote.
