The Pee Wee Cyclones Football team showed why the Central Alberta Football League has dubbed them the Mighty Cyclones this year after another dominant 53-6 win over the Stettler Panthers.
Injuries and illnesses didn’t stop the Cyclones in the decisive win to keep them undefeated in four games. Two players, Brandon Bovey and Carson Papp, played with a fractured finger and elbow respectively and seemed to play better than ever. Other players were sidelined due to other causes but were seen Saturday cheering their team on and taking over water boy duties when it called for it.
“We’re a family out here supporting each other,” stated head coach Wally Genz. “Brothers from different mothers.”
The Cyclones’ defence shut the Panthers down to one touchdown. Coach Genz was busy making changes to the defence and special teams putting in several first-year athletes that showed why they deserved to be there. Players such as Kirk Reiberger, Connor Walker, Keegan Mobley, Danielle Harrison, Brendon Gray, and Alex “The Lion” Putte showed incredible performances.
The offence had another busy game. Jeremy Klessens, league-leader in touchdowns, added another three to his stats. Quarterback Austin “X” Thompson had his best game of the season so far throwing for five touchdowns and running in two himself. Elek “Bus” Himer was an unstoppable force punching in two touchdowns and the ever elusive Riley Gagnon added in his second of the season after a 20-yard touchdown that took 30 seconds to run in.
The Cyclones play this Thursday at Great Chief Park in Red Deer under the lights at 7:30 p.m. Come out and show your support for the Mighty Cyclones.
