DIDSBURY — After falling 6-2 in Game 1 of the north division final series, the Mountain View Colts stormed back to win 3-0 at home on Saturday night, March 7.

Colts head coach Gord Olsen said the boys had a much better effort in front of the home crowd on Saturday.

"We made a little change in goal. The guys out in front of the goalie played a lot better than they did Friday night," said Olsen. "I'm not sure what happened on Friday night. We just didn't seem to have the effort we had Saturday night."

On Friday, the Colts struggled to find the back of the net in Sylvan Lake as they lost to the Wranglers despite goals from Josh Gette and Travis Gerrard.

Saturday, the Colts outshot the Wranglers 41-21 on their way to the shutout win. Scoring for Mountain View were Gette, Gerrard and captain Alan Klinck.

Picking up the shutout and win for the Colts was netminder Noah Campbell. Campbell replaced Ethan Woodward, who picked up the loss at Friday's game.

Olsen said the Colts played much better at both ends of the ice Saturday night at home.

"They only had 20-some shots," he said. "The goalie made the stops he needed to make. It was a pretty tight game. It was good. I think we just had a better overall effort. We were skating hard."

The teams were back at Sylvan Lake for Game 3 on March 10. Game 4 goes Friday, March 13 at the Didsbury Memorial Complex at 8 p.m. Game 5 goes Saturday at Sylvan Lake. Game 6, if necessary, goes Monday, March 16 in Didsbury, while Game 7, if necessary, would be March 17 at Sylvan Lake.

Olsen said the series with Sylvan Lake is much better hockey with less chippiness and roughness than the previous series in Airdrie.

"It was much more chippy with lots happening after the whistle," he said. "This isn't that type of series. This is more hockey and down to business. (I'm) pretty sure they want to win this thing and so do we."
