The Olds Mustangs advanced to the Tier 1 midget North Central Minor Hockey Association final on Saturday defeating the Rocky Midget Royals 9-5 at the Olds Sports Complex. The previous night in Rocky Mountain House, the Mustangs opened the best of three series by beating the home town team 14-5.
Dave Jorgensen, one of the team's assistant coaches, said while the offence came around in both games against the Royals, it got off to a slow start, partly due to the players needing to show more commitment to defence in all areas of the ice.
“Defensively, we need to be better … I think at this time of year the other team's got a lot of energy and is always going at us, and so we have to match that in the future,” he said.
The Mustangs will now play the Stettler Midget Legion in the final, which had yet to be scheduled as of press time. The Mustangs will be looking to avenge the only two losses they suffered this season at the hands of the legion squad.
