Colton Sheen made his debut for the Olds Grizzlys on Oct. 25 against the Brooks Bandits at the Olds Sportsplex. The forward was acquired from the Calgary Canucks on Oct. 23 in exchange for defenceman Chaydan Lauber.

The Olds Grizzlys' newest addition is hoping to light the lamp frequently with his new team.

“I play with a lot of fire, a lot of offensive flair. I like to play physical. Even the smallest finished check, it pays dividends on either end of the ice,” said forward Colton Sheen.

“I'm just looking forward to adding some serious offence to the Olds Grizzlys.”

Sheen was acquired from the Calgary Canucks in exchange for defenceman Chaydan Lauber on Oct. 23.

The 20-year-old from Calgary was the third-leading scorer for the Canucks at the time, recording six goals and five assists in 15 games played.

Brett Hopfe, the Grizzlys head coach and director of hockey operations, said the trade was made to increase scoring depth on the team, by adding a proven goal-scorer in Sheen.

With the trade, the team now has six 20-year-old players on its roster, the maximum number allowed.

“We're in a position where we think we could do something special here and that's why we got out there and ended up bringing in another 20-year-old player,” Hopfe said.

Lauber, 17, recorded three assists in 12 games this season with the Grizzlys.

The 6-4, 215-pound defenceman from Duchess played in 46 games with the team last year. Following what Hopfe described as some growing pains, “he started to find his own and played really well for us down the stretch and into the playoffs.”

“It's a tough move but in order to try and improve, you have to give something up and that's what we did. That's why we made the trade. He's a great kid and we wish him nothing but the best,” he said.

Sheen, who stands 5-9 and weighs 184 pounds, made his Grizzlys debut on Oct. 25 against the Brooks Bandits.

He has been enjoying life in town so far.

“It's been good. They've moved me into a wicked family — they're treating me awesome. I love the town. It's close to my hometown,” Sheen said. “I'm really excited to get going in the season.”
