Grizzlys forward Wyatt Noskey is proving himself to be one of Dana Lattery's best off-season acquisitions.
As of writing, the 21-year-old from High Prairie is leading the AJHL in scoring with 25 goals and 42 assists.
Noskey arrived in Olds with Tristan Thompson as part of a trade that sent forward Ty Mappin to the Drumheller Dragons.
With still a few games left in the regular season, he's more than doubled his total point production from last year. He has more points than his first two seasons combined.
"When we got him this year, we knew he had potential. We sat him down and said, 'we want you to be the guy to go to.' He ran with that," Lattery said.
Over the years, there have been a few players to see such a dramatic increase in production.
"I think Spencer Dorowicz had a pretty big jump. Kyle Moore went from three points to 40 points last year. That's pretty good too," he said.
Noskey is making the most of his time on the Grizzlys first line.
"In the off-season, I really put in work in the gym and decided I wanted to have a good year. When I got traded to Olds, I got a lot of opportunities from Dana and I've taken advantage of them," Noskey said.
"(In Drumheller), I was getting second line minutes most of the nights."
In addition to Noskey, that first unit also includes Chase Olsen, a top-five AJHL scorer, centred by Landon Kletke, himself a point-per-game producer with 20 goals and 28 assists in 44 games.
Those three have contributed close to half the team's total goals this season.
"They don't throw the puck away. They work too hard to get it to throw it away," Lattery said about what makes the line click.
"If you have possession of the puck, the other team doesn't have a chance to do much. When those three guys are out there, the other team doesn't touch the puck too often."
