Olds College's women's basketball team extended its unbeaten record this season to 8-0, sweeping a home-and-home series against the St. Mary's University College Lightning.
The Broncos beat the Lightning 78-66 at home on Nov. 15 after winning in Calgary the night before.
They were led by first-year guard Maya Parker, whose 32 points earned her the player-of-the-game honour.
The two teams played a tight first half, with the Broncos leading 30-28 by the break.
They pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Lightning 30-13.
Parker, a general studies student, said it was during that frame that her team found the energy to take control of the game.
“We acted like we wanted it more,” she said.
A 21-9 run in the fourth quarter for the Lightning cut the Broncos' lead to seven points but St. Mary's wouldn't get any closer.
According to Parker, mental toughness was the key to sealing the victory.
“I think just keeping our heads up was the most important thing, not letting that push they had get to us,” she said.
