OLDS — The Olds College Broncos women's hockey team hosts the SAIT Trojans tonight after losing its last two games to MacEwan University.
The Broncos women’s hockey team was beaten 6-2 by the Griffins on Feb. 8 and and 3-1 by the Griffins on Feb. 6 with both games at the Olds Sportsplex.
The Feb. 6 match-up was billed as the “Make Some Noise for Mental Health” game.
The Griffins took an early lead in that game, scoring all three of their goals within a five-minute span of the first period.
That prompted a goaltending change in the second period. Victoria Eilers took to the ice.
Eilers played well, keeping the Broncos in the game as the Griffins fired 14 shots at her in the second period alone versus seven for the Broncos during that frame.
The Broncos, determined to come back, worked hard in that second period but could not beat Griffin goaltender Natalie Bender.
The score stayed 3-0 after two periods.
The Broncos’ lone goal of the night was scored by defenceman Kassy Gaudette at 4:02 of the third period, assisted by Jessie Jack and Bree Edwards.
By the end of the night, the Griffins had outshot the Broncos 40-21.
The Pit Barbecue player of the game for the Olds College Broncos was Bree Edwards.
The player of the game for the Grant MacEwan Griffins was Karlie Bell.
