Five of seven members of the Olds High School cross-country running team who attended a meet in Sundre on Sept. 18 placed first in their categories.

Laura Klinck placed first in the Grade 9 girls 2,000-metre event, Leif Aitken finished in top spot in the Grade 9 boys 3,000-metres, Janelle Graham took top spot in the Grade 10 girls 3,000-metres while Matthew Gaudette finished first in the Grade 10 4,000-metres and Anushree Patel finished first in the Grade 11 girls 4,000-metres. Two other members of the team placed in the top 10 in their divisions.

Maggie Robblee, one of the team's co-coaches, said everyone ran well especially in light of the fact that the course was wet and treacherous.

“They all ran well. It was very slippery out there and wet and they had great runs,” she said.

Robblee said only seven runners went to the meet due to other school commitments and the fact that other members of the team wanted to conserve their energy for meets later in the season. Robblee expects about 10 runners to compete at the next meet in Sundre on Sept. 25.

“We expect probably 10 kids to go to zones (in Canmore on Oct. 9). We have very strong runners this year,” Robblee said.
