Ten minor hockey teams and about 200 families could visit town next March if Olds' bid to host the 2015 peewee AA boys major provincial hockey tournament is successful.
Those numbers came from Dan Rothenbusch, who is serving as the chair of a committee that has been working with the Olds Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) on a bid for about a month now.
The tournament would take place from March 20 to 23.
Parents of players on the Olds peewee AA Grizzlys of the OMHA make up the committee and will submit their proposal to Hockey Alberta by Nov. 15.
They expect a decision to come from the governing body for minor hockey in Alberta in December.
The group has received letters endorsing the bid from several local politicians.
The Olds Grizzlys of the AJHL are also planning to help out during the tournament if they do not have games scheduled, said committee member Joleen Fluet, who is handling media services for the committee.
Fluet added that Olds has not hosted a provincial tournament for boys at any level since 1990.
