The latest A & W Olds College male and female athletes of the week have been announced.
Brendan Klassen of the men's soccer team and Kassidy Kelly of the women's soccer team were given the honour for the week of Sept. 16-22.
Male athlete of the week
Klassen, better known as "Gramps" at the college, is a third-year agricultural and heavy equipment student-athlete and the captain of the men's soccer team.
He showed great leadership in what was a tough weekend for the men's Broncos soccer team.
Versus Lethbridge College, the Broncos dominated play throughout the first half and Klassen was at the heart of a dominant back line that allowed the offence to continue their barrage.
Although the outcome of the game was less than they hoped for and what the Broncos deserved, Klassen made sure the Broncos stayed focused and ready to perform again versus Medicine Hat.
On Sunday in the second of back-to-back games, the Broncos put on a solid performance in what was a close affair with the Rattlers. The Fort Saskatchewan native led the Broncos with several key plays and great leadership and was recognized as the Broncos' player of the game.
Female athlete of the week
As a first-year student-athlete, Broncos centreback Kassidy Kelly has shown great growth since the start of the pre-season and has helped solidify the Broncos back line.
In a tough game versus Lethbridge College, the sports management student was a bright spark in an otherwise disappointing game for the Broncos.
She made several key defensive plays, and showed a lot of growth in her ability to make quick decisions in tough situations since the start of the season.
On Sunday, the Airdrie native continued her strong weekend performance in the second of back-to-back games versus Medicine Hat College and helped get the Broncos back to their winning ways with a 1-0 triumph.
