OLDS — The Olds Grizzlys picked up their fifth win of the season Sunday when they edged the Canmore Eagles 2-1 in Canmore.
They have a chance to get another win when they face off against the Camrose Kodiaks this Friday, Dec. 1 in Camrose.
As of Monday, Nov. 27, the Kodiaks were not that far ahead of the Grizzlys. They had a 9-15-0-4 record for 22 points in 28 games, while the Grizzlys’ record stood at 5-19-2-3 for 15 points in 29 games.
In the Eagles game there was no scoring in the first period.
The Eagles struck first in the second period at the 4:49 mark. But Gage Giblin answered back for the Grizzlys, scoring his fourth goal at 10:38 of the second period, on the powerplay, assisted by Daniel North and Mitchell Patrick.
Kyle Venneman sealed the win for the Grizzlys with his sixth goal at 12:51 of the third period, assisted by Cade Moxham.
Goaltender Aiden Comeau played the whole game in net for the Grizzlys, stopping 45 of 46 shots on goal.
That win made up for a really rough roadie on Friday when the Grizzlys were shut out 7-0 by the Oilers in Okotoks.
Thomas Samborski went the distance in net in that game.
That matchup followed a fairly close one at home when the Grizzlys were beaten 5-3 Nov. 21 by the Eagles at the Sportsplex.
That last Eagles goal was an empty-netter.
Scoring goals for the Grizzlys in that game were Daniel North, Cade Moxham and Adam Lore.
Quinn Abbott, Venneman, Mitchell Patrick, North, Moxham and Avery Trotter picked up one assist each.
Comeau was in net for the entire game.
