OLDS — Olds native Ronan Seeley has been added to Hockey Canada’s Selection Camp roster for the 2022 World Junior Championship.
Thirty-five players have been invited to that camp which begins Dec. 9 in Calgary.
Seeley’s current team, the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League, announced his invitation on Dec. 1.
The 19-year-old left-shooting defenceman stands six feet, one inch tall and weighs 192 pounds.
He played his minor hockey in Olds and at the midget AAA level in Red Deer and Lethbridge. He’s been playing for the Silvertips since the 2019-20 season.
Seeley was selected by the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes in the seventh round of the 2020 draft (208th) and signed a three-year entry-level contract with them last September.
As of last week, Seeley ranked second in scoring among Silvertips players with six goals and 15 assists. He's been on a five-game point streak, having scored two goals and picked up six assists during that period. That left him tied for the longest streak of any Silvertip so far this season.
Earlier this season he was named WHL Player of the Week.
