The peewee Olds Stingers came oh so close to winning gold.
They settled for silver after being edged 5-4 by the Edmonton Wizards in the final of the Tradition Lives lacrosse tournament, held May 18-20 in Red Deer.
The novice Stingers placed fifth out of eight teams in their edition of the tournament.
The peewee Stingers gave it all they had.
"This game was so closely played and it came down to us losing sight of a player sneaking in from behind the net and receiving a nice pass for a quick shot that went in," head coach Walter Murray said.
Peewee team manager Julia Klassen praised the team for their accomplishment.
"I think our team worked so hard and played so hard to make it to the gold medal game, they definitely deserved the win for this tournament. But we are so proud of them for earning a silver medal," she said.
Olds novice Stingers manager Robin Stevens says the tournament was a learning experience for the novice Stingers.
"We just got outplayed this time, but tomorrow is another day and another opportunity to show everyone what this team can do," he wrote.
"Overall they played as a team and helped each other out as much as they could. It just wasn't our weekend. They are finding their feet as individual players as well as a team and gain confidence with every game."
