DIDSBURY - Young baseball pitchers – male and female – will be able to hone their skills with a couple of upcoming pitching clinics being held at the Didsbury Curling Rink.
The clinics go on Wednesday, April 11 and Monday, April 16 with two age groups: ages 9-11 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and ages 12-18 from 7:40 p.m. until 9:10 p.m.
Instructing at the camp will be former Canadian national team coach Harold Northcott.
Northcott was the pitching coach for the Canadian national team from 1997-2001, Team Alberta's head coach in 2009 for the Canada Summer Games, and Team Alberta's pitching coach in 1997, 2001 and 2017 for the Canada Summer Games.
The clinic will help prepare young pitchers both physically and mentally for the game of baseball. Many of the drills used in the clinic come directly from college, professional and national team programs.
"Athletes can expect to learn a warm-up that can be used for the rest of their career; proper throwing mechanics that will increase velocity and balance; the value of rhythm and balance; and new pitches," said Northcott.
"The clinic is designed for pitchers, however, if any athlete would like to improve their throwing mechanics, velocity and control they will benefit from the information and are welcome to attend."
Northcott has provided clinics in Sylvan Lake, Red Deer (both minor and AAA programs), Lacombe, Clive, Bashaw and Olds this spring.
