Provincial champions crowned at Olds tournament

The W.R. Myers Rebels from Taber defeated the Medicine Hat Monsignor McCoy Colts 67-47 to win the ASAA 3A provincial girls basketball championship, hosted by Olds High School March 16-19.

The W.R. Myers Rebels from Taber defeated the Medicine Hat Monsignor McCoy Colts 67-47 to win the ASAA 3A provincial girls basketball championship, hosted by Olds High School March 16-19.

Four members from Olds High School's 1991 provincial championship-winning girls team -- Anne Hansen, Tanya Mason, Julie Johnston and Kara Holst --presented gold and silver medals to the teams. Tom Christensen and Steve Templeton were the coaches then.

Edmonton Christian beat Chestermere 63-38 to finish third.

On the boys side, the Chestermere Lakers beat the Strathcona Christian Academy Eagles from Sherwood Park 97-94 in overtime to win the championship.

George McDougall defeated Bowness 101-93 to place third.

The three-day tournaments ended March 19.
