A pair of Olds Rapids Swim Club members broke several club records at a provincial trials event in Calgary on the weekend of February 21 to 23.
Jazzlyn Thompson, 12, beat three club records she had previously set for the 11-to-12 age range in the 100-metre freestyle category, the 100-metre breaststroke category and the 200-metre breaststroke category.
She also bested club member Phoenix Smith's previous record in the 200-metre breaststroke all-time category with a time of three minutes and 17:47 seconds.
Overall, Thompson finished sixth in the 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke categories at the trials.
Terence Kelly, 15, broke the club record previously held by club member Dawson Green in the 50-metre breaststroke category for 15- and 16-year-olds with a time of 38.45 seconds.
He also beat his own club record in the 50-metre breaststroke all-time category and tied Mitchell Ormann's club record in the 100-metre breaststroke with a time of one minute, 27:90 seconds.
Kelly finished seventh in the 50-metre breaststroke category and eighth in the 200-metre breaststroke category at the trials.
Club member Victoria Wagstaff will represent the Rapids at the Alberta Open in Edmonton on March 15 and 16 and the club's next meets are on March 21 in Olds and March 23 in Rocky Mountain House.
