Rodeo finals this weekend

The finals of the 2017-18 Mountain View Junior Cowpoke Rodeo are scheduled to take place at the Raecer Arena east of Sundre on April 21. The daylong rodeo will wrap up what has been a well attended and exciting season.

Four rodeos were held in the run-up to the finals, with rodeo athletes up to 14 years of age competing in front of dozens of supporters and fans.

Competitors take part in events such as goat tying, goat untying, pole bending, chute dogging, steer riding, breakaway roping and barrel racing.

The contestants have competed for many prizes including buckles and very nice high point girl's and boy's horse blankets.

And of course there are great prizes up for grabs at this weekend’s finals.

About 100 people attended the March rodeo. The results of that round are as follows:

  • Seven and under pole bending – (first to third for all) Grace Havens, Liam Havens and Jet Daines.
  • Six and under goat tying – Liam Havens, Lexi Sande and Kaislee Ziebarth.
  • Seven and under goat tying – Jorgia Holmes, Harlee Bensmiller and Grace Havens.
  • Seven and under barrels – Jet Daines, Liam Havens and Ellie Havens.
  • Eight to 11 barrels – Erika Webb, Tacie Tuck and Emma Webb.
  • Twelve to 14 barrels – Reagan Tebb, Presley Layden and Kaidence Lashmore.
  • Eight to 11 pole bending – Noah Kelly, Tacie Tuck and Emma Webb.
  • Twelve to 14 pole bending – Reagan Tebb, Tayanah Scott and Cora Croteau.
  • Eight to 11 goat tying – Riley Kelly, Teagan Brink and Jayce McKean.
  • Twelve to 14 goat tying – Reagan Tebb, Kaidence Lasmore and Brody Coleman.
  • Twelve to 14 breakaway – Carson Hillman and Brody Coleman.
  • Team roping – Reagan Tebb and Brody Coleman.
