Members of the Rotary Club of Olds have now raised $75,000 toward their $500,000 commitment to help fund extras like beachers, etc., for the new Rotary Athletic Park, currently under construction north of Walmart.

On May 24, members of the club presented Mayor Mike Muzychka with a cheque for $25,000. That brings the figure paid to $75,000 over the past year, according to current club president Peter Premachuk.

Premachuk says the club is on track to fulfil its commitment within the five-year agreement.

"We're still on track, and we have our golf tournament coming up on June 15 so we're hoping that'll help us, obviously," he said. "We're doing well. We've got great support from the community."

In return for that commitment, the park will be named Rotary Athletic Park. That announcement was made last September.

The $3.6-million project is expected to be completed and opened in 2019.

It will contain soccer pitches, and baseball and softball diamonds. The horseshoe pitches will also be relocated there from Centennial Park. Also, Town of Olds director of community services Doug Wagstaff says space will be allocated for a possible field house.
