INNISFAIL – The Innisfail Skating Club is gearing up for its annual skating show at the Innisfail Arena.

The two-hour season finale begins at noon on March 18.

It will feature close to 60 local skaters of various levels and ages, including those in pre-can and can levels as well as pre-stars and star levels.

"In our club this year we have 40 pre-can and can skaters and we have 18 star skaters,” said Nicole Sabasch, head coach.

Star skaters will be performing group and individual numbers as well as several duets, she added.

"It’s going to be a fantastic afternoon,” said Sabasch.

This year’s annual skating show revolves around a celestial theme, noted Sabasch, adding skaters will incorporate star-themed aspects into their routines.

"Every number is star related,” she said, pointing to examples of star-themed music to be used during the show. Costumes will also revolve around the celestial theme.

"They’re all going to shine like stars,” said Sabasch

In addition to showcasing the talent of local skaters, the event will welcome several guest skaters this year.

Special guests include Kenyon Monahan, an Alberta section competitor at the men’s pre-novice level from St. Albert and two Solstice Synchronized skating teams from Carstairs, who compete at the pre-novice and intermediate levels.

"We have some incredible guest skaters this year,” said Sabasch. "(Kenyon) is a wonderful skater. He’ll be performing two routines for us in the ice show. We also have two synchronized skating teams performing their numbers. They’re great to watch,” added Sabasch.

Skaters have been practising for the annual event for several weeks.

"We designate typically around 30 minutes a week (to practise for the ice show) and we start that in early February,” said Sabasch. "We spend around 10 hours on a routine.

"Our skaters are going to perform their solos too, which they do all year long,” she added. "They will entertain our audience with routines that are very well mapped out.”

Tickets for the annual skating show are available at the door.
