There are 64 athletes from Sundre High School (SHS) that are advancing on to cross-country zones in Canmore on Oct. 9.
About 150 runners from SHS and River Valley School (RVS) participated in the first official cross-country meet on Snake Hill last Wednesday. It was a Mountain View County meet that was open to students in grades 7-12 in all schools within Chinook's Edge School Division.
“With the large number of runners attending zones, we will have a better chance of bringing home the zone banner for 2A schools, which has escaped us for the past two years,” said Sue Wiberg, cross-country coach at SHS.
“We have athletes who train hard for cross-country and will do well at zones, hopefully medalling in their age categories.”
From the zone meet, 18 runners will advance to provincials, which will be held in Drayton Valley on Oct. 19.
“I am so lucky to be able to work with these kids every day.”
