CARSTAIRS - The Carstairs Skating Club held its annual winter skating carnival on Sunday at the memorial arena.
The theme for the carnival was Heroes and Villains and featured all the club members and synchronized teams skating in costumes of their favourites.
"From everyday heroes and superheroes to fantastical villains - we covered them all," said club secretary Carrie Kmiecik. "Every program that Carstairs Skating Club runs participated in the show.
"All 85 skaters in CanSkate, StarSkate and SynchroSkate showed off all the skills they have worked on during the season and showcased this in their carnival programs or solos."
Kmiecik said the carnival consisted of skaters from ages two to 40, with 33 group and solo numbers under the choreography of coaching staff Monique Wassman, Andrea St. Cyr and Charlsey Whittemore.
"This year Monique and Andrea celebrate 20 years of coaching in Carstairs," said Kmiecik. "Every skater has worked hard during the season achieving new levels and skills, and with the help of the club's coaches they were able to show off all they have learned and accomplished at the carnival. The show had a great turnout with lots of family and friends in attendance."
