CARSTAIRS - With a late start to spring, soccer in the area is a little behind. Registration numbers are slightly down this year, said Carstairs Minor Soccer president Mandy Longeway.
"Numbers are down from last year by about 10 per cent," said Longeway. "We're looking at having all girls' teams, boys' teams up to U-15; no U-17 or U-19 boys' teams in Carstairs. We have everything from U-3 and up."
Longeway said the U-7 group plays games in Carstairs while the U-9 to U-19 teams travel for games.
"U-9s only play Carstairs, Didsbury and Cremona, whereas all the other groups cross over to the entire Big Country Soccer District," she said. "We will be hosting the district tournament in the third week of June and are looking at some other potential tournaments, but at this point we don't have firm plans."
Carstairs Minor Soccer is targeting May for a start date.
"Due to the weather, we are behind by about two weeks," said Longeway. "We hope to get the travel teams going by the first week of May and house teams the week after. Mother Nature is definitely a factor."
