The Olds High School senior basketball teams swept Didsbury High School on the road on Dec. 17.
Nicole Schultz led the Spartans with a team-high 13 points as the senior girls beat the Dragons 44-40.
Janelle Graham chipped in with eight points but her biggest contribution came on the defensive end, intercepting numerous pass attempts by the Dragons.
“She has really good instincts as far as where the ball goes and reading the plays,” said Spartans head coach Kent Lorenz. “She's definitely our go-to girl on breaking presses and steals.”
The two teams played a tight first half, with the Dragons leading 21-20 by the break.
Olds opened the third quarter with a 12-1 run, capped off by a foul line jumper by Jessica Moody to give the Spartans a 32-22 lead.
Didsbury responded with a 9-2 run of their own to pull within three by the quarter end.
A tight fourth quarter followed, with Didsbury trailing 42-40 in the final seconds.
A foul with 3.3 seconds left to stop the clock put Schultz on the free-throw line and she drained both attempts to seal the game.
Mark Flinn led the senior boys with 32 points and Connor Howard had 14 during a 98-25 dismantling of the Dragons.
Every member of the Spartans recorded a point and head coach Tom Christensen said the game was a good chance to give the entire roster some action as well as to try different plays.
