Olds and District Special Olympics (ODSO) has received a cheque for $5,000, proceeds from the annual Shaggin On Sno ball slo pitch tournament.
This year's edition of the tournament was held March 17 and 18 at O. R. Hedges Park.
ODSO chair Karen Mengersen says proceeds were down a bit from previous years.
"There were 15 or 16 teams participating, and last year I believe we had 21 or 22 teams," Mengersen says. "Each team plays $250 to play, so the lack of those five or six extra teams means the lack of that much money."
Money raised via the tournament will be used to support the ODSO softball program.
Specifically, Mengersen says it will help pay busing costs and fees to other tournaments so Special Olympics athletes don't have to pay as much themselves.
