Members of the Special Olympics Phoenix Swim Team placed from first to sixth among more than100 swimmers during a meet in Red Deer.
The event, called Special Olympics Red Deer swim meet, was held on Jan. 30.
“The swimmers each swam their personal best at this meet, competing against competitors from Lethbridge, Brooks, Edmonton, St. Albert, Red Deer, Calgary and Medicine Hat,” Olds and District Special Olympics chair Karen Mengersen says.
She notes the first- to sixth-place finishes were earned by the team's “seasoned swimmers,” while some swimmers new to the team got a chance to get into competition for the first time.
