The Olds Spitfires bantam baseball team finished in third place at the Western Double A Bantam Championship held in Swift Current, Sask., from August 16 to 18.
After winning the first game of the tournament 9-4 against Victoria, B.C., on the morning of Aug. 16, the team dropped their next game that evening to the Muenster Red Sox from Saskatchewan with a final score of 8-4.
On Aug. 17, the team lost to the host Swift Current Indians 14-4 and then beat Oak River, a team from Manitoba, 10-6.
With a 2-2 record, the team did not qualify for a chance to play for a medal on Aug. 18.
The Oak River team ended up winning the championship after defeating Muenster 11-2.
The Spitfires had earned a spot at the tournament after winning the Bantam Tier 1 Provincial Championship in Olds on July 28.
