Pan Am results
Innisfail's paddlers came just short of winning Olympic berths for Canada after participating in slalom canoe and kayaking events at the Pan American Championships in Brazil this past weekend.
Jessica Groeneveld and the Purcell brothers, Daniel and Thomas, competed in slalom events from March 9 to 11 in Foz do Iguassu, Brazil.
Groeneveld had the highest finish of the three, placing second in the female K-1 event.
The Purcells placed fourth in their C-2 event.
Only one Canadian berth was earned this weekend. David Ford of Edmonton placed first in the men's K-1 event.
Curling competition
Innisfail's Wilf Edgar will be competing for Alberta this weekend during the Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Abbotsford, BC.
Edgar, the lead in for the team based out of the Red Deer Curling Centre will head to the nationals with skip Rob Armitage, Keith Glover from Red Deer and Randy Ponich from Rocky Mountain House.
"None of us have gone to Canadians before," said Edgar. "We're pretty excited."
The competition runs March 17-25.
